Market Design Specialist, Dr. Gerard Doorman, joins our Advisory Board

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Gerard Doorman as the newest member of our experienced Advisory Board. Gerard Doorman, a Market Design Specialist at Statnett, the Norwegian TSO, brings a wealth of expertise and a remarkable track record in power market design to Snerpa Power. We are confident that his invaluable insights and strategic guidance will significantly contribute to our mission of driving innovation and excellence.

Gerard Doorman's involvement in ENTSO-E activities within the Common Grid Model, balancing and market design, as well as his role as the convener of the ENTSO-E project that developed the 2030 Market Design Vision, demonstrates his deep commitment to shaping the future of the power industry. His broad expertise encompasses power market design, congestion management, balancing, capacity markets, offshore grid, and demand flexibility.

Throughout his distinguished career, Gerard Doorman has made significant contributions to the power sector. Prior to his role at Statnett, he held positions within power companies, consultancies, and research and teaching. From 2006 to 2018, he served as a professor in Electric Power Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Furthermore, he has (co)authored nearly 80 scientific papers, showcasing his commitment to advancing knowledge and driving innovation in the field.

Gerard Doorman holds a PhD in Electric Power Engineering from NTNU, further solidifying his academic credentials and deep understanding of the intricacies of the power industry. His academic background, combined with his practical experience, uniquely position him to provide valuable insights and strategic guidance to our organization.

“The power system is changing in unprecedented ways, driven by rapidly growing volumes of weather dependent generation. Demand will need to adapt to variable generation and contribute with flexibility. While this is a necessity from the power system point of  view, it is also a great business opportunity for industry, with a potential to reduce their electricity bill and increase competitiveness.” says Gerard Doorman. “I am highly motivated to contribute to this development through the advisory board of Snerpa Power.”

The MaksGrid project awarded 26 MNOK

SnerpaPower, together with five grid companies and several research and technology partners, has been awarded a PILOT-E grant of 26 mNOK.
