Who are the founders of SnerpaPower and what experience do they bring?
SnerpaPower was founded by Eyrún Linnet and Íris Baldursdóttir in January 2022 with a shared vision of breaking barriers and speeding up the digitalization of industrial load to make green industries more competitive and to accelerate the energy transition. Eyrún and Íris have a long history of both working closely together on complex grid investment projects but also on opposite sides of the table. For the longest, Íris was responsible for system operations at Landsnet, the Transmission System Operator in Iceland, and Eyrún was power system responsible at the Rio Tinto aluminum smelter in Iceland. Both saw the urgent need to create new technologies better suited to link industrial load safely and in an intelligent and profitable way, to the fast-changing electricity markets.
Eyrún and Íris are both electrical and computer engineers with a combined experience of over 40 years working in the power and utility sector in Iceland and internationally. They share the vision of a competitive, green and equal power system and society.
Eyrún has almost 20 years of experience with substantial knowledge of both the electricity system and the load control and balancing of Power Intensive Users. She worked for Rio Tinto Iceland Ltd. (ISAL) for 12 years, majority of that time as Power System Responsible for ISAL, leading the automatization of operation and maintenance of the electrical system for the last seven years. Before that, she was the Leader of Pot Operation for ISAL. Previously she worked for Landsnet, the Transmission System Operator in Iceland, for six years as an expert and later project manager in system analysis and grid development. Eyrún completed her M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from DTU, Danmarks Tekniske Universitet in 2006 and B.Sc. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Iceland in 2002.
Íris has over 20 years of experience in the energy sector, the high-voltage transmission and manufacturing industry in Iceland, Sweden, Belgium (Europe), and Mexico. Most recent as a senior advisor at ENTSO-E (the European Association for the Cooperation of Transmission System Operators (TSOs) for electricity), leading Steering Group Strategy for system operators in Europe. She held the position of Executive VP of System Operations & ICT at Landsnet, the Transmission System Operator in Iceland, where she worked for 15 years. At Landsnet she created a smart grid team working on innovative solutions for grid operations and she held several leading positions in European funded research projects, such as Migrate and Garpur. Íris started her career as an executive trainee at ABB Sweden, a global HV equipment manufacturer, delivering Flexible AC Transmission Systems to a global market. Íris completed her M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from KTH in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2001 and a B.Sc. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Iceland in 1999. In 2021 she completed the AMP (Advanced Management Program) in global business and leadership at IESE Business School in Barcelona.
